Legends and Lowlifes - Work in Progress

Project is not dead, as things tend to do, life gets in the way and burnout can occur. I do want to thank people for the feedback they’ve been providing. I’m also taking feedback from a discord channel that I may post a link to in the future but since I don’t control the channel I’d rather wait until I have permission to do so.

My hope is that if these blocks can be refined on here, I can then work on putting them into a stat block. To that end I’ve decided to forgo writing the ‘fluff’ as it were and focus down on the mechanical stat blocks. Yes they will be influenced by the fluff but the more important thing is the mechanical stat blocks is there and works.

For the time being I’ve been working my way through a list that I have of characters I want to stat. It’s a long and very ambitious list if I do say so myself. To the point that I want to post it here so that if people want to contribute ideas you are more than welcome to! Also note that the list isn’t exhaustive and with the release of new Star Wars media is bound to expand:

In the meantime here’s a couple of the bestest of boys!

I’ve been wanting to tackle Cal & BD-1 for awhile, and with playing outlaws, Kay & Nix have inspired me to actually go ahead stating both pairs up as to me they would share a similar niché but very different stats. However, since Cal came first, he’s the first to get designed, plus it means I can refine the idea for Kay.
My goal was to make it so that Cal & BD-1 effectively work as one initiative slot and one entity for the purposes of keeping things simple for the GM, but of course both have to have a stat block incase either become seperated.

Cal’s stats are supposed to reflect and mimic that of other jedi survivor stats such as Kanan, Ahsoka and more.

Naturally he comes with the usual suspect force powers of Enhance, Move and Sense, but of course I had to include Psychometry. I don’t recall who came up with the rules of this version of Psychometry but I felt it did the job well enough and its to remain consistent with that power as I do like whatever I am working on to be compatible with other homebrew stuff out there.

Talents are also your usual suspects but I have given Cal quick draw to represent his ability to quickly switch between saber and blaster in Survivor.

The final stat block will have both Jaro Topals Lightsaber mimiced from Heroes from Both Sides. Given the abundance of different Lightsaber types Cal could use it was difficult to decide what to put him with really, but a pair tends to be what he is depicted as using.

BD-1 is intended to always be on Cal’s shoulder with the two acting as one entity but BD-1 can be commanded, to keep the initiative clean and simple, Best of Buddies makes it so BD-1 acts immediately before or after Cal’s initiative.

While they are together Cal can essentially use one of BD-1s skills and characteristics in place of his own.

Stimpack Compartment naturally allows him to heal a stimpack as an incidental without having to spend a maneuver to get it out.

Part of me wonders if Cal should get a Lightsaber based ability considering his wide experience in different stances.

BD-1 does have stats on his own. His stats are based on the BD-Series Explorer Droid stats found in The Scavengers Handbook, unofficial sourcebook, again this is to be as consistent with the community sourcebooks as possible. Naturally with it being BD-1 the stats are heavily modified.

Since Cal doesn’t do well with computers and Knowledge checks, this is where BD-1 exceeds and has talents to assist mostly in this area with Codebreaker, Researcher etc.

To help mimic his ability to disable droids, while giving BD-1 some combat utility, Bold Little Droid enables BD-1 to perform a Brawl check to stagger a target for one round, or two if the target is a droid. Naturally because BD-1’s brawl is awful, I decided to simply have for that maneuver only you treat BD-1’s Brawn as 3, and upgrade by the target’s silhouette as a larger target would theoretically find shaking off such a small target difficult.

Yes when I will design Kay & Nix they will act in a similar way. In fact my plan is to have Nix act as an extension of Kay allowing her to do things such as pick up items at medium range etc.

I’ve already received great feedback concerning Cal and BD-1’s stat blocks.

BD-1 has been given coordination to allow the little guy to ‘chicken run’ as someone on the discord put it and I can’t help but agree as the little guy is shown to be pretty speedy.

Cal himself has had an ability added to represent his style switching in games; Style Change: Once per encounter, Call may spend a maneuver and either change from his Double-Bladed Lightsaber to Dual Lightsabers or vice versa. The next attack Cal makes this turn ignores Defense and cannot be effected by the Parry talent.

Furthermore, he has been given stats for both the Double-Bladed Lightsaber, and the Dual Lightsabers for quick reference. Cal has also been given stats for his LW-896 Blaster which is a New Blaster that can be used in the game by players and represents its ricochet shot ability by having the Guided 3 quality.

From one power couple to another, here comes both Kay Vess, Nix, but also a few extra’s.

Kay Vess is a similar taste of smuggler to Han Solo and so it’s no surprise their characteristics are similar, however their differences come down to the skills, with Kay more focused on Computers, Stealth, instead of Mechanics. She’s not as good a pilot for ships, but better at planetary speeders given her time using one. Her lack of experience in the underworld also means she has lower ranks in Underworld.

Kay has her VM-19 Blaster and it’s just as versatile able to gain the Blast 3 Quality, or the Ion Quality for a maneuver. Kay can also spend Advantage or Threat (depending on if its her check of the opponents) to immediately perform an attack against the target. Naturally Best of Buddies appears again here, this time giving a bond to both Kay and Nix. Finally, to represent her skill at slicing and lockpicking she has ‘Like Mother, Like Daughter’.

Let’s not argue about who is the bestest boy, BD-1, or Nix, they are both the bestest boys in the Galaxy. Nix is more support based with enhanced perception and survival checks. However where he shines is that after an attack he may steal an item from an enemy, before scurrying away (likely back to Kay to hand her whatever he just lifted).

The snark is strong with ND-5 and people fell in love with this Commando Droid so I had to also stat him up. Being a BX Commando Droid, his directives are to eliminate whatever target he is directed to; Cold Killer allows him to double tap on critical hits, when combined with his ranks in Lethal Blows, it makes him a seriously strong opponent. Of course his Steely Attitude makes him hard to talk and converse with…unless your an established (and dangerous) member of the underworld.

Finally I have statted up both the standard EML-850 Light Freighter, and it’s unique varient; the Trailblazer.

Can’t wait to see how this all comes togather, keep up the good work!

It’s slow going, but coming along.

But now I think it’s time for some Elite Clones.

Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron introduced us to two main characters. Clones of Jedi Falon Grey, X1 and X2 served in the Grand Army of the Republic as Clone Troopers until the Galactic Civil War forced both of them apart. Ultimately both would end up following the ways of the Force, one as a Jedi and one as a Sith.

While Clones are very individualistic in the show, I’ve decided due to there only being two clones of Falon Grey to have the same stat block be reflective of them both at first, and then a secondary stat block to reflect them later in the era of the GCW.

I’ve also decided to start giving my NPC’s subtitles. There’s just something I like about them having a moniker. I also helps to differentiate between different versions of the same character.

X1 & X2 have a very standard stat block for elite Clone Troopers sporting a diverse range of skills. Since they are never shown using sidearms, they only have Ranged Heavy, but have Gunnery as an offset to this, allowing for use of more potent weaponry.

They have a single Force Dice which can only be spent to enhance certain skills. This is to reflect their latent Force Ability and also because in the Game we can see they can tap into the Force even if they are unsure how to utilise it.

Their special ability is also reflective of this, their Clone Training combined with the Force making them exceptional marksman, allowing them to use pips to add +1 damage. While the ceiling for this is low at 2, it does mean they can punch harder than their other ‘brothers’.

It wouldn’t be fair to not include the man they were cloned from Falon Grey, Jedi Master and namesake of Grey Squadron.

For the little time we see him, Falon displays fantastic prowess not just with a lightsaber but with his brawling ability. To reflect this he has a decent Brawl rating, Martial Grace, and a couple of Ranks in Iron Body. His ability ‘Make Peace, Not War’ allows him to disarm opponents and get the weapon a distance away from them, theoretically to then appeal to their senses and surrender.

Since Falon was the one that healed X2 back to health, he has access to Force Heal.

In the end. X1 and X2 took different paths, with the former becoming a Sith Lord, and the latter a Jedi Knight.
